Strandír

strandír is an experimental ambient quartet creating dreamy, textural soundscapes shaped by improvisation and sonic exploration. The group brings together Tumi Torfason (trumpet and effects) and Daníel Helgason (guitar and effects) from Reykjavík, alongside Tobias Link (trombone and effects) from Berlin and Stefan Vidal-Schneider (drums and effects) from Aarhus.The name strandír comes from the Icelandic language and refers to the rugged beauty of coastlines, shores, and beaches—their shifting textures and colors, and the unpredictable weather that continually transforms their appearance.This ever-changing natural landscape is a central inspiration for the quartet’s music. Through layered electronics, acoustic instruments, and a highly intuitive approach to composition and improvisation, strandír evokes sonic environments that are at once atmospheric, organic, and in constant motion.
