SONA "THE RETURN"

HE IS BACK!! SONA returns to FREIBURGThe new Generation of African Electronic Music. On October 24, KARREE welcomes SONA - a artist whose story is deeply connected to one of the most influential names in contemporary electronic music, while at the same time representing a generation determined to create its own sound, identity and path.Born Esona Maphumulo, SONA grew up surrounded by music and culture. His father, South African global superstar Black Coffee, needs little introduction. From the early days of his career in South Africa to becoming a Grammy Award-winning artist and one of the most internationally recognised figures in electronic music, Black Coffee has built a legacy that reaches far beyond the dancefloor. For SONA, this legacy was not something he discovered later in life. It was his everyday reality.Music was present from an early age - in the studio, on the road, backstage and in the atmosphere of some of the world's most important clubs and festivals. Growing up in this environment gave SONA an unusual perspective on the world of electronic music and on what it means to dedicate your life to sound. But being the son of one of the world's most recognisable DJs comes with its own challenge. From the beginning, SONA has had to find the balance between his family name and his own artistic identity. Rather than simply following the path already created for him, he has chosen to build his own. That search for individuality is at the heart of SONA's musical journey. His sound moves through Afro House, Deep House and contemporary electronic music, combining rhythmic influences from his South African roots with a modern, international approach to production and DJing. His sets are driven by groove and atmosphere, but leave enough room for experimentation and unexpected turns.SONA's development as a producer has also taken him far beyond the traditional boundaries of the DJ booth. One of the milestones of his career came with his involvement in Drake's “Texts Go Green”, from the album Honestly, Nevermind. As a producer and co-writer, SONA became part of a globally recognised project and demonstrated that his ambitions extend beyond simply performing behind the decks. At the same time, his DJ career has continued to develop internationally. From Tomorrowland to Hï Ibiza and from European stages to performances in cities such as New York, Los Angeles and Las Vegas, SONA has been steadily establishing himself as an artist in his own right. His connection to Black Coffee remains an important part of his story - but it is not the whole story. In fact, that tension between heritage and individuality is what makes SONA particularly interesting to watch at this stage of his career. He represents a new generation of artists who grew up in a globally connected electronic music culture and are no longer interested in strict borders between genres, scenes or continents.KARREE has always stood for the meeting of music, culture, nightlife and international influence. Our programme is built around artists who bring more than just a name to the booth, artists with a story, a sound and a perspective of their own.On October 24, SONA will bring back, that perspective to Freiburg.Expect a night shaped by deep grooves, Afro-influenced rhythms, atmospheric melodies and modern electronic energy. A night that connects the musical heritage of South Africa with the international sound of today's dancefloors. And perhaps most importantly, a night that offers the opportunity to experience an artist who is still writing his story..One night. One floor. One journey.Featuring: SONA
