MERCENÁRIAS Special Guest: Edgard Scandurra (IRA!)The story of Mercenárias began in the early 1980s, in São Paulo’s thriving underground scene. With their debut album Cadê as Armas? (1986) and Trashland (1988), the band made Brazilian post-punk history: angular basslines, driving rhythms and uncompromising lyrics — raw, feminist and far ahead of their time. International compilations and reissues by Man Recordings, Soul Jazz Records and Beat Generation later brought their music to audiences around the world and established Cadê as Armas? as a global post-punk classic.More than four decades on, Mercenárias are still looking forward. In 2024, they shared the stage with Bikini Kill in São Paulo. In 2026, they performed Cadê as Armas? in full at the legendary Theatro Municipal de São Paulo. Now they’re bringing the album’s 40th-anniversary tour to Germany, playing it in full alongside highlights from 43 years of the band’s history. This will be their first performance in Hamburg.Mercenárias are Sandra Coutinho (vocals and bass), Silvia Tape (guitar and backing vocals), Mari Crestani (guitar, saxophone and backing vocals) and Pitchu Ferraz (drums).Joining them as a special guest is Edgard Scandurra, guitarist, songwriter and founder of the Brazilian rock band IRA!. Before becoming one of Brazil’s most distinctive guitarists, he was Mercenárias’ first drummer from 1982 to 1984. At Uebel & Gefährlich, he returns to his roots — this time playing guitar on selected songs.SUPPORT: M.i.p.V (Berlin)Founded in Brazil in 2004 by Laura.aLL, M.i.p.V — Músicas Intermináveis para Viagem (“Endless Music for Travelling”) — play instrumental trip-rock that moves between krautrock, dark jazz and experimental music. The band has since been active in independent music scenes across Europe and Latin America.Their debut was nominated for Brazil’s Dynamite Award for Best Instrumental Album in 2007. German press has compared M.i.p.V to bands including Tortoise, Neu!, Durutti Column and La Düsseldorf. Parts of their album Modus Continuous were recorded and mixed by Martin Bisi at the legendary BC Studio in New York.There’s a special connection between the two acts tonight: Pitchu Ferraz plays drums for both Mercenárias and M.i.p.V. She regularly performs with M.i.p.V in Brazil, while the band usually plays with other drummers in Germany.
