While writing and releasing music with the bands PILEA (indie pop) and Loose Lips (alternative rock), he has quickly accumulated more and more songs that didn't fit into either of those projects. This led to the creation of the alter ego joe gloomy, where Joel places more emphasis on his own identity and style rather than on classic genre boundaries. Having gone through a difficult time over the past year which placed his other music projects on hold, he found solace in his own music and was able to slowly put together eight songs. In parallel to his life, the songs depict a turmoil of emotions between love, obsessive thoughts, anxiety, and hope. Joel is responsible for the entire creative process from songwriting to vocals, instruments, and the production itself. The first single, “Mashed Potatoes,” is a danceable, dreamy indie rock song about the overwhelming feeling of being head over heels in love.
