Jakob Vasak - Kobophon Live

Composer and sound artist Jakob Vasak performs with the Kobophon, a self-developed electroacoustic string instrument built around a closed acoustic feedback loop.
Developed as part of an ongoing compositional practice, the instrument explores source- ambiguous yet physically grounded sound.
Through feedback, resonances and overtones embedded in the instrument’s physical nature are brought to the surface, making audible hidden physical layers that are otherwise imperceptible.

The instrument can enter self-oscillating states, producing evolving harmonic textures that continuously shift between stability and instability.
In performance, these processes become material for building larger harmonic environments. Sounds are sustained, layered and allowed to interact over long periods, with feedback continuously changing their density, pitch and internal movement.
Extended resonances, harmonic accumulations and subtle changes in the instrument form the basis of a continuously unfolding sonic landscape.
Vasak’s wider practice moves between electroacoustic composition, film and experience design, with a recurring interest in ecological sensibility, environmental listening and non- anthropocentric approaches to composition, informed by the complex and interdependent relationships that shape natural environments.
