4 To The Floor: Film, Talk & Clubbing w/ Archie Burnett, Colleen 'Cosmo' Murphy & Kiddy Smile

4 TO THE FLOOR opens its festival weekend with an evening tracing a line from New York club history to the contemporary dance floor — moving from film and conversation into clubbing with international dancers.

The evening begins with a screening of Check Your Body at the Door, a documentary about the dancers who helped shape New York’s underground club culture. Afterwards, a panel brings together three perspectives across generations and scenes: Archie Burnett, one of the film’s central figures and a living link to New York club dance history; Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy, who continues the dance floor philosophy of David Mancuso’s Loft; and Parisian DJ, producer and performer Kiddy Smile. Berlin-based DJs Jana Falcon and Robin Flux carry these threads onto the local dance floor, opening the club program before Colleen and Kiddy take over.

4 TO THE FLOOR is Berlin’s international Whacking festival. Whacking is an expressive club dance rooted in resistance, visibility and community, that emerged in the queer BIPOC club communities of 1970s Los Angeles, where dancers developed their own language of movement through self-expression, individuality, and performance. Across three days, the festival brings artists and communities from around the world together through battles, workshops, film, conversation and clubbing, connecting the culture’s history with the ways it continues to evolve today.
